8oz sr flour
8oz sugar
8oz porridge oats
8oz margarine
1tbsp golden syrup
1tbsp hot water
1/2 tsp bic soda
mix flour, oats and sugar, melt marg, syrup and water in a pan stir in bic soda and add to dry mix, mix well, make smallish balls and put on greased tray and flatten slightly with a fork, 180oc for 15 mins, cool on the tray, you just want them golden in oven not brown

Keep an airtight lidded bowl in the fridge of carrot, celery, red pepper sticks along with some chopped apple and grapes. If necessary the vegetable crudities can be dipped in some hummus.0

Vegetable soup's a good snack. You can use up any leftovers, or any cheap veg you get at the last moment, or use frozen, or fresh.... it needs no "cooking" and can even be dumped into a slow cooker and forgotten. It freezes (in portion sizes) and can be nuked hot. It can be eaten from a bowl, or supped from a mug.

Cheese and pineapple or olives, pickled onions on cocktail sticks. Frozen chunks of banana are lovely! Slices of homemade pitta pizza are nice.
Mini baked potatoes, with different fillings. Homemade yoghurt hummus dip and crudites. Minty yoghurt dip.

Aldi super six currently have Satsumas and apples for 55p, we love HM popcorn, but our rubbish Asda doesn't stock it so I have to wait until DH takes me to the Tesco superstore in the next town where I bulk buy it.
Twinks hobnobs are amazing, so are cheese straws, jam tarts and fairy cakes, Peanut butter on crackers or made into peanut cookies, cream cheese and breadsticks, nuts and yoghurt are all things they grab and goBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Grapes or slices of apple with broken up walnuts and some small cubes of cheese is my idea of heaven. (Leave out the walnuts for small children).
Can vary with pickled onions and olives. Don't automatically think that small children won't like olives...my daughter at 2 years old took one, I told her she wouldn't like it (thinking that she thought it was a grape), she loved it. (Perhaps telling her that she wouldn't like it helped....although that wasn't my intention at the time.)
Bread sticks and vegetable batons such as carrot, pepper, celery with a dip. Notice others have mentioned hummus. A cream cheese dip made with Philly like cheese is also good. Use half cheese and half yoghurt and add flavour of your choice. Could be some herbs and/or spices, or maybe some thinly diced onion or garlic, or some chopped up pineapple. One that goes down well in our house was the addition of garlic, tomato ketchup and smoked paprika with a splash of mushroom ketchup (or Worcester sauce for non veggies).
Fruit salad with a special topping. Any fruit of your choice in season, chopped up, dash of lemon juice (either fresh or Jif type) to stop apples/pears browning. You can add liquid of your choice, but not necessary, fresh fruit or diluting juice, or add it up a step for adults with some sparkling wine for special occasions...just a splash to cover and mix in.
Drizzle some chocolate on to wax/greaseproof paper/silicone sheet in a circular shape and make swirls or other designs to keep it altogether...spiderwebs for kids at Halloween, or make star or moon shapes, whatever design you like. Allow to cool and harden, peel off and keep in a container, but separate with greaseproof paper or clingfilm. Serve a choc design on top of fruit salad. If that's too much trouble, a fine grating of chocolate on top, a little goes a long way. You can always add a tad of cream/yoghurt/whipping desert/jelly underneath the special topping.
Frozen bananas. Great cut into pieces and frozen. Bit messy, so better to stick in some lolly sticks before giving to children. Good for doing with ripe bananas that may end up in the bin, and good for making smoothies.0 -
Air popped popcorn. I buy in bulk from Amazon and use a silicone 'popper' which goes in the microwave and doesn't need any oil. You can add things to it but warm and freshly popped its delicious and really doesn't need anything else. Cheap, healthy and ready in two and a half minutes:)Original mortgage £112,000 .
