Hi all,
A friend recommended that I post a new thread about the issues I'm having with my breakdown company from a recent event in relation to my car.
I really hope someone can help
On Friday 14th October, I started a journey from London to Somerset. On the M25 my car started making strange noises, so I thought that I would err on the side of caution and call my breakdown company to ask them to come and have a look.
The engineer arrived and checked the car and said he couldn't see anything mechanically wrong. I asked if we could drive to the nearest petrol station and if he could have another quick look.
We did, and he then used his diagnostics machine on the car. This showed up an error with the gearbox, which he said wasn't a big issue and wasn't anything to worry about. He recommended that I carry on with my 2 hour journey and, if I wanted for my own piece of mind, maybe take it to my local garage to have a look. But he really didn't think it was necessary.
About 40 miles down the road, my car was really making a lot of noises and then started to smoke. I then lost all control of gears etc and had no power, driving down a dual carriage way. I pulled over and called my breakdown company again. They obviously were very apologetic of the situation and sent someone out to tow the car.
I am now in a situation where the rescue company are denying anything ever showing up on the diagnostics machine and saying that there isn't anything that they can do. I am trying to make them see that the damage to my car is a lot more severe, after driving it at their recommendation and completely destroying the gearbox.
Any help on this would be hugely appreciated as I'm not sure where to go from here....

Clearly if they've been called out once and an hour later called out again, there is some negligence on the shoulders of the first call out engineer (and by proxy the company)
Makes no difference if something showed up or not, as an independent assessor will no doubt say that the issue would take longer than 40 minutes to develop and that why you called them out in the first place.0
