Hi everyone,
I've noticed that a debit card transaction (always two in a row) have started appearing on my bank statements. I know I'm not making the transactions in person and the reference on my statement is always RIVER ISLAND 400 GB. Now I know i'm not shopping at River Island, and I also know what all my transactions are per month. I called Natwest last month to enquire and they said they know by looking into it that its coming from my computer? I was wondering if anyone else had seen this on their statements??

Does anyone else have access to your computer and your debit card details? Do you have an account at River Island? How much has been taken so far? If you haven't authorised the payments you should be disputing the transactions to get the money refunded, but the bank will want to investigate.0

It's likely a transaction made at branch 400 of River Island.
The GB is the country code. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If you perform a Google search there are several hits of people asking what these transactions are but I cannot see any replies that explain them.
There's a River Island outlet at 400 Oxford St London (which is inside Selfridge's)0 -
If you did not make these debit card purchases then the bank should refund you and change your debit card.
Not sure what you mean by the bank 'seeing these debit card transactions were coming from your computer'. If they mean online shopping from your computer they would not be able to tell that.0 -
Have you
(i) shared your debit card or its password with anyone?
(ii) read abou tthis
ww.thisismoney.co.uk/news/article-3849368/Could-fall-prey-contactless-conman-thieves-money-card-walking-street.html
Do you:
1.Live alone?
2.Have a computer?
3.Do Online banking or shopping?
4.Share your computer with anyone else?
If you have a computer:
(a) Do you need a password to log on to the computer, if so have you changed it?
(b) Have you scanned it with your security software & Malwarebtyes Anti-Malware to see if there is an infection on it?0 -
Maybe a tad too late here, but River Island 400 means the RI online store. I'm an ex-RI employee.0

I had this on my bank statement yesterday. No one has access to my card or computer and I reported it to the bank who said they will investigate. Although I was told I wouldn't get a refund until they had investigated I received a refund later in the day.I've cancelled my card and a new one is being sent. Really hand at Christmas!!0

What bank?0 -
River Island is part of a company that owns a lot of other clothes brands. I can't remember which ones exactly but I know I once made a purchase at one of them and the other shop came up on my statement.
Have you purchased from anywhere else that may link?0
