Gas cookers

Hi, can anyone tell me approximately what a gas cooker for a typical family would cost to run monthly/yearly? We have a gas Aga which is costing quite a lot to run and we're thinking of changing to a gas cooker (range master classic 110) to help reduce the bills, but unsure of what we would be saving..... any help would be greatly appreciated, as the range master company were useless when enquiring... (We don't have gas central heating by the way!)

    r2015 is pretty much correct.

The energy savings trust puts a range on Gas and Electric cooker use of about 300kwh - 550kwh annually.

At current prices that puts annual cost at around.

    £7.50 - 13.75 for Gas at 2.5p per KWH

    for electric

    £30 - £50 at 10p per KWH.

Your AGA may be using as much as 425kwh for gas or 220kwh for electric per week ! That is according to AGAs own usage figures I think.

This means your AGA would use more in two weeks than your gas cooker does in 1 year!

It is unclear if that pertains to AGAs used for cooking only. Some sources state that it does!

So any comparison must be have the caviat of: What else is your AGA doing? Does it supply heating for the property?

If not, and your weekly cost is around 425kwh in Gas cooking alone, then I would dump the AGA as quick as possible.

Based on that weekly usage figure an AGA may use 22,100KWH of gas in year.

This would cost £552.50 at the same gas price above of 2.25p per kwh.

    So £13 vs £552.50

Again, how the property heated may be a big factor here.

You must also look at your annual KWH use. What is your current daily/weekly KWH use. You can only make an informed decision when you have worked out what your actual usage is.
  • Thanks so much for your help:) think the beloved aga will have to go!
