Naughty girls driving course.

Hi all -

I am a bit confused.

I was caught speeding. Doing 35 in a 30 zone. I am hoping to do the naughty girls driving course. However do I need to call my insurers and tell them I've done it or not? Obviously if it's offered to me.

I've found so much conflicting information on the internet I was hoping that someone had a link to a dot gov page that stated a definitive answer.

Stashbuster - 2014 98/100 - 2015 175/200 - 2016 501 / 500 2017 - 200 / 500 2018 3 / 500

    What does your policy say?

    Most aren't interested in courses.

Each insurer has their own policy on this. Given nobody other than you knows who your insurance company is it is impossible to answer your question.

Currently it seems only the Admiral group are interested. As a group that is a fair number of brand names though.
  • You do not have to tell anyone that doesn't specifically ask, because whilst the DVLA might have a record, they don't give that information out.

They told me that on the course.

Someone on the internet told me I could do as many courses as I wanted, as long as I was caught speeding by different Police Forces.

One of those facts is Bull Carpola

So the relevant element of the document states:

You (me) must tell us (them) before the next renewal date if anyone one the policy has -
    • had any motoring offences including convictions, endorsements, penalty points, fixed penalties (excluding parking penalties), speed camera offences, disqualifications or criminal prosecutions pending.

Failure to provide correct information or inform them of changes could adversely affect the policy... blah blah.

So I'm thinking the speed camera offence counts. So if they do or don't let me do the course I have to tell them. As soon as I know the outcome - or am I waiting for renewal?

It says BEFORE renewal. I imagine they mean now, rather than the day before renewal. It could be clearer.

Well you've been caught for an offence, but there's no conviction, endorsement, point, disqualification or prosecution.

    It's your call.

Odd wording. How can one have "had an offence"?

I'd read that as you only have to tell them before you renew with them, as that will affect the price of the new premium they will offer.

So it should not affect the current year if you tell them, and arguably if you do not renew with them (and hence do not have a renewal date) then you don't have to tell them at all.

If you do the course then you don't have to tell them according to that wording. No mention is made of courses and if you do a course you don't get points or endorsements or a conviction.
