Copy from PVR to DVD ?

I've got a Humax recorder thingy - fairly old, but works well. There's loads of films and whatnot recorded on there that I never get time to watch as I'm working away from home a lot.
Is there a simple way of copying a film, for example, onto a DVD so I can take it with me to watch later? I've got a PC with a DVD writer if that helps.
Or actually, saying that, it doesn't actually need to be a DVD - if there's some way of copying it directly onto my laptop that would do.
Basically I'm just after a cheap ( preferably free ! ) and easy way to be able to copy stuff off the PVR to be watched on my laptop.

The humax PVR I have came with a windows utility which allows you to copy files over USB. There is a 3rd-party linux version that used to work for me, but doesn't seem too reliable any more. (Maybe it was okay on USB1 but not USB2.)
You can also physically remove the disk from the humax and attach it to a pc and copy files that way. (It'snot a standard filesystem, but a 3rd party util can decode it. I think that's available for unix and windows.) That's a lot faster.
Each recording is a .ts file which many standard media players can show.0 -
Thanks for that info. I'll have a proper look at it when I'm back home at the weekend and see if any of those suggestions work.0

About 5 years ago when I had a Humax Freeview box and a computer which had WinXp on it, I used to remove the HD from the Humax and put it in an external case.
There's only 4 or 5 screws in the back of the Humax holding the cover on and 4 easily accessible screws holding down the HD inside
Connected the case to the computer and there used to be a free program which copied the Humax TS files from the Humax drive to the computer's hard drive.
Once the TS files were copied they could then be either rendered down using for example Handbrake or something similar and stored for later viewing - this was in the days when I thought a 10gig drive was over the top - little did I know........
I used the program in Xp don't know if it will run in Win 10 or Linux - when I get back I'll have a look on the old machine and see what the program was called - can't think what it was called.0 -
The program you want to do the job of copying the recordings from one drive to another is HUMAXRW but I don't know if it's still available or works with anything newer than Xp.
HUMAXRW copies everything - the only files you need are the .ts (transport stream) files. Once the copy has finished, you can safely delete the other files which have been copied, but remember to KEEP the .TS files.
