Category C write off

I have my car insured by Tesco Car Insurance and a few months ago someone had scraped the side of my car and knocked my wing mirror off whilst it was parked outside my house. I had no proof or witnesses to provide them with so I went ahead and paid the excess. It was taken to one of their approved garages and Tesco concluded it was a Cat C write off. I decided to make the claim and retain the vehicle to get the repairs done by a separate mechanic.
My car is all fixed up now but the question I would like to ask is..do I have to confirm that my car is approved for road use?
I'm aware that a VIC was in place up until October last year, but now I'm not sure where I stand with my insurance company and the law. I checked the status of my MOT on the .gov website and it remains valid, and Tesco Car Insurance isn't all that clear on the validity of my insurance.
One member of staff has told me that I need another MOT done and another said everything is ok.

Keep the proof that one said it was OK and no new MOT required and carry on until they say otherwise.
Just check on askmid its still covered. Some years ago a friend had hos car written off and kept it and repaired themselves and his insurance would only cover it 3rd party because they had already paid out on it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
VIN checks have been abolished, you need to apply directly to DVLA for new V5C cert which will have the cat c marker on it.
