Tesco credit card bizarre

Hello

I am coming to the end of a couple of zero % balance trans deals & want to get some new zero % cards to move the remainder of the debt to. I have never missed any payments & reg check my cr files that are squeaky clean.

Weekend before last did 3 applications after doing soft searches, 2 cards accepted straight away but the limits offered only covered two thirds of my balance so applied for the 42 month b/t card with Tesco as well. The application came back as referred saying I would get something in the post in 5 working days.

Here’s where it gets strange. I then received a letter 30 pages long. The top page was very miss-leading as until you get to the bottom of the page it seems to say I was accepted but reading on this is not the case as they then say they need my permission to do a credit check to set a credit limit yet it encloses a credit agreement quoting loads of info for me to sign & return. There are then loads of pages of waffle saying how applying for a credit card is a very serious decision & quoting several times something called Standard European Consumer Credit Information.

I am no longer bothered if I get the card but after wading through all this rubbish I decided to sign & return the credit agreement to see what happens. Obviously Tesco do not operate in the 21st century am surprised they didn’t put a page in prophesying the end of the world.

Has anybody else come across this with them?

Thanks

Forgot to mention. The letter said it would take 3 weeks for a reply. So from application to then would be 5 weeks.. Maybe i should hail a handsome cab & go & see them with my quil pen.

I and others had a similar experience with HSBC recently, all very bizarre, got there in the end though. Even had to take ID to a branch to enable me to register for online banking as I didn't already have an account with them! Maybe they are running Tesco operation too....
