If you live in Richmond, as does my sister, the noise of planes going over is deafening.
Planes are getting quieter all the time, both on approach and departure, and so (although there will be more of them of course) will be quieter still in 10 years time when/if the third runway is built.
If the noise is so bad, it does make you wonder how the average house price in Richmond can be over £1,000,000!Every generation blames the one before...

The noise pollution, for example, spreads very far – it is not just local to the airport. If you live in Richmond, as does my sister, the noise of planes going over is deafening. This will spread to other local areas if there are even more planes. There will also be enormous traffic pollution and even greater traffic jams. Much of the pollution is invisible, but it is toxic and should not to be ignored. The airport is big enough already and other options (like Gatwick) should be considered. It is also questionable whether such an already huge airport should be expanded in such a densely populated area.
In any case, it will be years before the airport is expanded (if it is at all), because there will be numerous legal challenges.
If this pollution spreads so far then whether this new runway is in Gatwick OR Heathrow is irrelevent, is it not?
And even if pollution is not so severe, can you not see that you would only be moving potential problems of any type from one place to another - and one which is not (in the scheme of things) very far away, at that?0
