Did Capital One Really Check my Credit File?
Comments

Hmm I got turned down by them and they just said I'm "pre-approved" for another of their cards (no interest free rate so why would I bother?) I don't believe they checked my report either because I know its fine, I've never missed a payment in my life. I believe they turned me down cos of my age or because I'm self employed or something...0

Unless the first search was made of a fraud prevention agency database, and a stop/go decision made on the basis of the result returned?...which brings me back to my 'wrong letter sent' theory above.I had assumed that a credit check would be done before the policy rules were applied - because some policy decisions will be based on the content of the credit history.0 -
IMHO the do not check it at all. I received the same letter of refusal with the same motivations. I was a bit upset because my credit file is ok and I wrote them back an appeal letter against their decision. So they will send me the card "thanks to the information provided" so they simply trusted what I stated in my letter.
Who knows? Maybe they refuse all unless you do not send an appeal. I thought they refused me because I have a foreign name...it should not happen but it often happen.
Anyhow, send an appeal letter and they will accept you, IMHO
Good luck.

This could be the key. Are you sure the address on your cc application(s) matched your address as shown on the electoral roll and on your credit reports? An extra line may be inserted/omitted if, for instance, you live in a block of flats or sometimes use a house name in addition to a house number.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Yep, same thing happened to me. I got copies of all my report and there was no credit check with Capital One on any of them even although they implied that was why I declined. James0

Just to add to the confusion on this. I have just been accepted by cap 1 a week ago (immediate response) and there is no credit search on either experian or equifax! I have no previous association with them either0

A few years ago I applied for a card with them and was declined. No credit check was done...0

There could be a problem with their computer system and it accessing the CRA's as Capital One are sure they have carried out a check and have the data, but there is no credit search on either file. Plus recently with Experian I have noticed credit searches just disappearing from Credit Expert, spoke to a member of their staff and they said "yep, its not on the system". James0

The same happens me all the time. I am at my wits end with getting refused. All my credit reports are spotless. What can I do?0
