yes but RPI , which is a closer indicator* of the true picture IMO, is up from 3.8% to 4.1%
* and even that is not close enough to the truth!0 -

it's hilarious, they crack me up. CPI is down because of lower mortgage exit fees.
But CPI doesn't actually include mortgage payments, which are substantially up (hence increase in RPI).
What a joke.0 -
Looks like a nice bit of basket swapping was going on last month:rotfl:
fell due to a reduction in mortgage exit fees and clothing. No wonder the government were keen to outlaw the exit fees!!!!:rotfl:0 -

Surely what will be a closer indicator for one person will be different for someone else.
Not everyone has a mortgage and have savings instead. For some the only important factor will be the price of beer and fags. That's the problem with all such statistics.0 -
Maybe all householders don't have mortgages, but we all pay Council Tax - which is in the RPI but not the CPI - oh, except of course for Government Ministers living in grace and favour Crown Estate properties! Would be nice if inflation was really less than 2% - then my salary would be keeping up with it!0

Was thinking of homeowners who don't have mortgages - am well aware of the difference between "the poll tax" (community charge) and Council Tax thank you!0

Students and children don't generally have independent income, and are not affected by RPI/CPI. Am simply making the point that CPI is not a fair measure of inflation for most people, as most people do have housing costs, even if its only Council Tax! Didn't expect a lecture on Local Government Taxation for expressing an opinion!0
