Could I extend the height of a fence post?

Hi,
We had a patio done and asked the guys to erect two large timber posts for a 6' gate.
They did but did 6' from the ground level before laying the patio so one is about 5'9 and the other 5'7...
It wasn't such a big deal to make them dig them up again but since I've realised I want the gate and posts as tall as is legal thanks to a nosey neighbour.
Any ideas how I could increase the height to over 6' to be flush with an equally tall gate?

by putting in new posts
there's no magical way to do it without it looking crap or painting it after in a solid colour.0 -
you could get a slightly wider gate and mount full width including posts rather than between them.
If on your side you would not see the posts.
as long as they are not supporting anything you could dowel and glue some extensions on but won't look perfect.0 -
They should have at least made them level0

Hi,
you could stick a 'cap' on, might have to level posts first.0 -
We did this recently at daughter's house, cut a piece of fence post the length we needed then used Timberlok screws to attach the extension to the existing post, installing them from the top of the extension piece into the top of the existing post. 2 screws per extension piece.0
