Quotes for conveyancing and full survey, what should they be?

I'm a first time buyer who has just had an offer accepted on a 120k victorian terraced house that has some damp.
I used London & Country as a broker and have been very happy with them so far. They have reccomended a soliciter and a surveying company.
The quotes are £600 for a full survey using gotosurveys.co.uk
and £1200 for all the legal work.
I'd like to shop around but I'm not really sure where to start or what to look for. Do these quotes seem ok? And if not what is the best way of finding other quotes?

£600 is ok, but I think you could get it down to £450-£500 if you shop around.
As there is no stamp duty, the legal work is going to be around £800-£1100.
In both areas you can get cheaper.
I got a quote for a full survey with a company in Solihull can't remember the name, but I decided just to get the home buyer's report for around £250 (scheduled this week).
My legal fees excluding the stamp duty is £1100. But part we have Help to Buy ISAs in that as well.0 -
Ring a couple of local RICS surveyors and ask for quotes.
Visit a couple of local solicitors likewise. Always compare solicitors quotes carefully. Some will include things which others will add as 'extras'. Read:
