New carpet problems... Any advice or similar experiences please?

Options
Hello Everyone

Wondering if anyone’s had this before and looking for a bit of advice. We’ve just has a new carpet fitted and there’s an indent that runs the whole length of the room (I have photos and have added links, sort of! Apparently I'm 'too new to add photos! So the links are bellow but minus the http:// bit!

Anyway, the fitter said it’s were the carpet was wrapped very tightly round a cardboard tube for delivery and it will lift up over a couple of weeks…. Apparently it’s very common and in 99.9% of cases it sorts it’s self out in a couple of weeks? We’ve never had this before; neither have any of my friends or family I’ve spoken to about this…. Anyone out there? Did it just “pop back up” over two weeks or so?

I have expressed my concerns to the company that it looks very similar to an indent caused by a chest of drawers that we never ever got out of the carpet in our old house. It certainly never just popped back up. I haven’t paid yet as I said I’d call tomorrow after my husband has looked at it, they know I’m worried about it. The main office phoned looking for payment straight after the job. I have the photos and I’ll be paying on a credit card. If there is any dispute does anyone know if I’ll be covered by section 75? Or will I be throwing that away by “accepting” the goods/services by paying now knowing full well the intent is there? I’m only “accepting” it on the understanding this will sort it’s self out as he’s promised. If there is a lasting problem, will I still be covered if I end up having to claim?

Basically, I have to pay as they’re not going to sit and wait for two weeks. The guy on the phone was dismissive as if he sees this all the time and basically had a “what’s the problem? It’ll go away, trust me” air about him. He said that they had a manufacturer’s guarantee and if it doesn’t go away in two weeks, I call him and they replace the carpet… simples. However, I have nothing but his verbal say so that he’ll do this, and I struggle to trust that it will be as simple as he’s making out (possibly just so I’ll pay up!)

Any experiences, help or opinions anyone? Thanks so much

Had similar on a carpet a couple of years ago. All was OK after a week or so.
  • That's good to hear, thanks daveyjp! I know I might be jumping the gun a bit trying to plan what the next steps might be if this doesn't sort it's self out, but that's how I am! I just want to be prepared and make sure I do the right this so I don't jeopardise my rights if it all goes wrong. Obviously, I hope it it's fine in a week or so, that would be a relief but I want to get prepared just in case.... It looks scarily like our old chest of draws mark they never went away, so I am a bit concerned. Thank you for the vote of confidence in it springing back :)

Totally normal , it really is where the start of the carpet has dug into itself as it's been rolled up .
It should hoover out and acclimatise in a few days .
If for any reason it doesn't it would be a warranty claim .
I'm an installer by the way .

Totally normal, its a pile pressure line, it happens to every single carpet however various factors determin how noticable it is. So even though you say its never happened to you before i can garentee you it has (assuming this is not your first ever new carpet) just you never noticed it before. Ive been a carpet fitter for 21 years I see a pile line every day and only ever had 1 carpet in that time where the line didnt fade.

Just to bee clear it dosnt just "pop-up". It is ware that relaxes the compressed pile, so the more you use walk/vacume* the faster it will vanish

*assuming you use the correct type of vacume for your carpet, any twist/cut pile carpet should use an upright cleaner (with beater bar) loop pile should be suction only cleaner.
  • Thank you all! I think it might be looking a bit better this morning already. Feeling far more relaxed about it now & off to pay them now. They're going to give me a written agreement to replace it if it doesn't fade so I think it's all good.

Thanks beeg0d, we had our whole (old) house recarpeted and never noticed anything like this. As you said, maybe it's just particularly noticeable on this particular carpet so we just never noticed before. A few friends & family I spoke to about it also said they hadn't had/noticed anything like it before either, so we're all an unobservent bunch :)
