Hi,
We are thinking of spending a few days in Pembrokeshire near Amroth.
Can anybody recommend any places nearby that we should visit please?
Many thanks.

  • Tenby and narbeth for shopping.
Oakwood, and Folly Farm for kids.
Blue Lagoon for indoor swimming (next door to Bluestone)
    Pendine beach and motor museum.
They also an ancient church between Pendine and Red Roses - EGlwys Cummin.

SOlva and St David's cathedral are beautiful but further afield and as I haven't been there for 30 odd years I have no idea what's to do around there.

    Have a lovely hols.
I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.

  • Oops, forgot Laugharne! It has a castle and Dylan Thomas' boathouse but as I haven't been there for years either you'd have to check online that they are open.

  • Definitely Narberth for shopping, cafes & delis. Tenby in the winter is lovely. I think Oakwood is shut but Folly Farm is open all year round. Afternoon tea at The Grove near Narberth or St Brides Hotel in Saundersfoot if you are feeling flush! Walk from Stepaside to Saundersfoot through the tunnels is great.
Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.

Close by in Saundersfoot is the Reptile Experience, which gets good Tripadviser reviews is an interesting place to spend 1-1.5 hours if you have any interest in reptiles.

The Tin Shed Experience is also close by, and an interesting way to pass an hour looking around World War 2 memorabilia.

Castle Beach at Tenby is very pretty, and well worth a visit. I don't think it is possible to visit St Catherine's Island now, which is a shame as it was great when I visited earlier in the year.

A bit further afield (1 hour drive) is Red Kite Feeding.

A similar sort of distance but in another direction are boat trips out with A Bay to Remember, where hopefully dolphins will be sighted.

I've been to all the above, and thought all were interesting and good experiences in their own way, so some of them may appeal.

Re the Pembrokeshire Coast Path - it's as well to be aware that some sections of it have only been allocated a few feet of width - with things like barbed wire fences preventing people being able to walk a more comfortable distance away from the cliff edge.

So check in advance re any sections you plan on walking if you haven't much of a "head for heights" and need to walk somewhat further away from the edge. I never thought twice about going for any walks I've ever had along cliffs before moving here - but have learnt I am unable to walk along much of that coastpath because it feels unsafe to me with such a narrow width.

Some of the walking round here can be a bit "rugged" if not used to it.

If you like walking there's also Bosherston Lily Ponds, Haverfordwest is pleasant, Little Haven,Broad Haven, Newgale Beach (on your way to Solva and St Davids). Fabulous part of the country and I loved it when I lived there in the early 80's.

I actually went back there a couple of years ago with a view to moving back, but the only thing that put me off was how far it is from my family.
