How long to wait after new job

Hi,
Had a browse on the search but couldn't quite find something that matches my question, so I thought I'd try to make a thread.
I am wondering, how long after starting my first job in a while (been a lazy student that past few years) should I wait before applying for a credit card? I was thinking of trying for the BA Amex card (I plan to move to the US next year, and I believe you can transfer it). I wasn't sure if there was a minimum period of employment I should have before applying though? (Experian puts my credit score at 940, but wasn't sure about employment requirements)
Appreciate any help anyone can give
thanks
EDIT: does anyone also know if Amex have a minimum income requirement to be accepted? I read that they removed the requirement for each band of card, but wondered if there was an absolute minimum they enforce internally?

Probably as long as it takes to get a pay slip but 3 pay slips will be better so you and possibly the lender can calculate your average salary. Your length of employment is likely to be a factor though. I know you can transfer a virgin Amex to USA but I'm not sure about the BA card.0
