Dell Computer problem

I have a Dell computer. When I switch it on a blue(ish) "haze" covers most of the screen apart from the top inch or so. It does eventually clear but sometimes takes several minutes. I can move my mouse in the top clear part of the screen but lose it when I try in the other part. Sometimes (though not always) this is followed by a blue or pink "haze" over the password screen which sometimes clears completely but other times the password screen fades and I have to wait.
Is there anything I can do to stop this happening. I am not very computer literate. Any suggestions please?

Is it a laptop or a desktop PC?
It's likely either to be a problem with the monitor/screen or the graphics card.
As you can move the mouse freely in the bit of the screen that you can see, it suggests the computer is probably working normally otherwise.
A desktop PC would be much easier to diagnose, because you could try the monitor with another PC, or try another monitor/TV with that computer.
Even if it's a laptop, you should be able to connect it to an external monitor or TV to see it it's a graphics card fault.0 -
It is a Dell Inspiron One desktop.0

It is a Dell Inspiron One desktop.
Well that makes it easier.
Can you connect it to another monitor or the TV to see if it still has the problem?
Or do you have another computer that you could connect to the monitor to see if that's the problem?
Oh hang on. The Inspiron One is an 'all in one' isn't it?
That makes it trickier again.
I think it's got an HDMI socket? Which is probably an HDMI out (it'll say on it).
In which case you could test it by connecting it to your TV.0 -
Actually, if this is a picture of the back, then it looks like there might only be video input sockets (VGA and HDMI)?

In which case you'd need to connect another computer or TV box to it, to test if the screen is faulty.0 -
Go onto the Dell website for support, get it to find your own PC details (service tag and express service code) will take a minute or two and then select diagnostics and let that run to find problems. The diagnostics take a lot longer but well worth doing.
You may then need their further support or post back here to forum help.0 -
The screen has/is about to die.
Hold down the D key whilst turning the computer on for display test.
If you are out of warranty, this is going to be quite expensive0
