Bank Charge

Hi All, I have a rolling mobile contract with iD Mobile with the direct debit set up for the 26th of each month. iD Mobile failed to take the direct debit out on the 26th and tried to take it out on the 28th as there was no funds in my account to cover it Santander has charged me £25 for an unpaid direct debit. I phoned iD Mobile who say that they did take the debit out on the day agreed so I phoned Santander who said that iD Mobile tried to take it out on the 28th. How can I get either the Bank or iD Mobile to refund the unpaid direct debit?
Thanks
Thanks

If it was 2 days late then how come you did not leave the funds in the account until the dd was accounted for ?
As for recouping this charge it will only be considered as a gesture of goodwill by the bank if they decide it is okay to do so, The Company in question cannot be held responsible as they can request the money you agreed to pay them, The only time you can expect them to cover costs would be if they tried to take additional dd's from you on top of the agreed one.0 -
Unfortunately as per above, if you knew you had a debit going out and took the money out without checking the debit had gone, it's down to you. You could ask the bank nicely if it's the first time and they might refund it.
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

You cannot have a refund of charges simply because you assumed the Direct Debit had been taken out and so spent the money. If you look at your iD Mobile bill you will see that it carefully states that your account will be debited ON OR ABOUT the date agreed. There is no guarantee it will always be exactly on time.
All you can do is keep a tighter control on your finances in future. Never assume, always check your balance regularly.
However, if this is genuinely the first time you have incurred such a charge, the Bank may agree to waive it as a gesture of goodwill.0 -

As it is your failure to manage your account, then its you that is responsible.
Direct debits arrive later on weekends and bank holidays. Never earlier (if it was earlier, then you would have protection under the guarantee scheme).
As above, banks will often refund first time charge to someone that doesnt make a habit of it. However, in future, run your account a bit better. Keep a reconciled record. Most do that on a notepad, excel or ms money or other variants.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
