O/S Daily Monday 24 October 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, but dry underfoot, air a bit chilly. I have a load to put out on the line, not sure if it will dry but don't want to use the TD.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit, I'll wake him shortly, as he's going away with college today for 1 night, so need to be up and sorted as I'm giving him a lift to the pick up point.

Lunch yesterday was roast lamb, roasties, mash, carrots, brussels, kale, broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy - there wasn't any meat left but some LO veg, yorkshires etc are in the fridge. Dinner tonight will be egg, gammon, sausages, hash browns, mushrooms and beans - was going to do an all day breakfast but we had one on Saturday - and I have some gammon that needs using up.

Yesterday was a lazy day - whilst lunch was cooking I prepped all the veg etc, then organised pack ups. I was having a bit of a panic about the meat, I like to cook lamb so it just goes all meltingly soft but this just didn't go like that and I was worried it would be tough and dry - but it wasn't it was fine, hence there not being any left! We just watched tv in the afternoon and we got DS1's car tax paid online too, he's just had his car insurance renewal come through and it's dropped very nicely again, so he's a happy chap.

This week is going to seem a long week as I'm now working this coming Saturday and the 2 after - so working 3 Saturdays' in a row - I'll enjoy the money though - no doubt! I'm going to try to stick to the menu plan also, when I'm working extra hours then on Saturdays' too, we get tempted into takeaways etc, as the boys are now adults with huge adult appetites - takeaways cost so much money - it's better to buy it in and cook at home, unless it's a real bargain/offer/deal or such like. I have a menu plan for this week, and did my shopping accordingly - the only extra I may need is more bread and milk - I do have enough milk to last the week, but I'm going to have to take 1 x 4 pint into work this morning, as I would normally buy it en route, but as I'm taking DS2 to the pick up point I won't have time.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning.

Pitch black outside and I hear the patter of light rain.

Plans for today start with a visit to the chin woman and then I'll be making a ratatouille and a Mexican tortilla.

There's also some marking to be done before Thursday which I need to stop putting off.

I hope everyone has a good Monday.

    Morning All

Dark outside but lovely stars in the sky. Dry for now. Finished sealing the driveway yesterday then it rained - bet the sealer is all washed away now so that was a waste of money!

Back to work for me today, no enthusiasm for it at the moment but as they say, I'll be ok when I get there. Going to DDs from work, hopefully DS2 and gf will be there, we can have dinner then I'll bring them home. They are off back to The Netherlands tomorrow.

Yesterday's gardening workshop was good but it got so cold, had to go for a bath when I got in as I was frozen.

Washing up to date and house reasonably tidy, DW doing its thing. Must go for a shower, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks for the start NMLC. Brr it's a chilly one out there! I just went out into the garage for some veg and the cold hit me as soon as I opened the door!

I have a pan of chicken broth simmering on the hob for Mr TA's lunches over the next couple of days. I still haven't developed a liking for it myself so shortly I am getting a pan of chorizo and bean soup on the go - some to freeze and some for my lunch.

I currently feel like a laundry worker! I got the bedding from 4 single beds (generated by DS and 3 DGDs) washed and dried over the weekend, so that's waiting to be ironed today and the beds remade. Then as soon as Mr TA vacates our bed that's getting stripped and washed too. SK size takes some drying indoors but I have given up pegging out as it never gets properly dry. Even if the sun is out it's so low now it doesn't get over the enormous conifers so thoughtfully planted by neighbours! Grr!!

DS is still busy unpacking and finding homes for everything! Though yesterday he took a break and had a trip to a nearby retail park to buy all the kitchen tools etc he needs. Back to work for him today and it will be a treat to just have a two mile trip each way after the arduous drives he has had over the years.

Have a good day and (((HUGS))) to all in need. LAINEY is. as always, in my thoughts. You are making such lovely memories to look back on. Hope Saturday's injured are recovering now. Take care all xx

    Morning :hello:

I want to buy Christmas presents. The cash has been budgeted and is sat there ready to be spent. But no-one knows what they want – standard answer is “errrr, dunno”. I'm tempted to conclude that no-one needs or wants anything, so I should spend it on myself :D

The holey pumpkin was too heavy for my kitchen scales so I cut it into three to weigh it – 23lb 11oz. Then I chopped it a bit more and fed it to the chickens :D I've kept some seeds, they're drying out on the windowsill.

Not much happening here, there should be but I've been feeling a bit blah the last few days. I've got a bit more energy today so will organise myself this morning and get a few jobs done.

The Walking Dead fans, you will understand my excitement - I thought was on on monday nights and have been looking forward to watching it tonight. Imagine how excited I am to realise that they showed the first episode at the same time as the US, 2.30am today our time, and it's there on my Tivo box RIGHT NOW waiting to be watched :j lol

    Hello All :hello:

It is SO cold this morning! Teary-eyed cold - I fear my washing won't get dry at all, but will come in all stiff-as-a-plank lol. Need to go and dig out thick wooly socks.

Our house alarm system has been throwing a wobbly (I think a sensor is on the way out) - it keeps triggering the alarm randomly (yet not very often) even though it isn't set. Alarm boffin calling later today (thank goodness for very modest cost annual service contract that gives me call-out cover).

I bought a new Vax cleaner in their annual clearance sale and after a couple of weeks use, the main cleaner head broke away from the neck that goes on the extension pipe. Still works, but the cleaner head falls off all the time as I'm using it. Emailed them and had a response within minutes letting me know a replacement was on its way! Yay!

Need to get household drudgery out of the way today. Hope those who had them are feeling perkier after tumbles/falls/colds/tummy bugs. Sending hugs/positivity and xxxxx's to all who want them. To those in a dark place, get wrapped-up and keep going - you can do this xx

  • Morning, I am just about to head off to work, feel much better.

It has gone really cold, not liking the dark mornings but the trees are so pretty now, until all the leaves fall.

Dinner last night was roast pork, hm stuffing, roasties, roast parsnips, kale and carrots, of which I ate very little but family ate mine so not wasted. OH cooks tonight as I am working. Short week, hooray.

Must get a wiggle on, I don't have to be in at a particular time, was very tired so slept a bit later but people get a shock if I'm not there at the crack of dawn. I am procrastinating, I don't actually want to go. I'd much rather stay here and do nothing much, still I can do that tomorrow woohoo.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Brrr, it's chilly and damp outside so today I am staying put in my home. The girls are all off this week and 2 out of 3 are still in bed, just my lovely DD13 sat with me munching her breakfast. Hubby has left for work without waking me so I could have a bit of a lie in.

I am drowning in washing at the moment so that is what I will be doing today with the help of my daughters as I can't carry the baskets up and down the stairs.

I have a load of mince in the fridge so I am going to make a bolognese bake for tea with loads of veg in it. Just the thing needed on a chilly day. I have menu planned for the rest of the week and there are a few casserole type meals on there to reflect the change in the weather.

My eldest DD has asked me to look after the grandchildren on Wednesday and Thursday as she is working and her husband works nights at a bakery. I am looking forward to seeing them again and will put my thinking cap on for some fun activities for them to do. I may take them out to lunch on one of the days as they are well behaved children.... mostly :D.

Well I am off to make a cup of tea, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning everyone,

Cloudy and cold here, the farmer has just rumbled past the cottage in his tractor so guess the field will be ploughed today, that will keep Tilly entertained as she stands up at the window and watches all the birds that follow him!

Yesterday was lovely :) cake all made and sleeping safely in the biggest tin, reeking of brandy. DM sat with me in the kitchen and managed a little stir of the mixture, must admit had to swallow back a big old lump in my throat at that point.
DSIL and two nieces came over in the afternoon so Mum caught up on all their news, she was v tired by the time we took her back to DB's but v happy as well. Today we have the nutritionist coming from the local hospice to do an assessment and advise etc, she then has more visitors this afternoon so will take the opportunity to pop over and spend some time with Bill.
Ha, the chooks got the pumpkin in the end then Tru
Thanks TA you are so right, we are making lovely memories to store up x

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

My L&M has been dropped at work, fish and dog have been fed.
I've been to the butcher shop and bakers, to the co-op to pick up the meal deal for dd.
I'm having baked beans on toast for breakfast to use up the leftovers beans from yesterday.
I need to divide up the meat for the freezer and then start some house work.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
