I do think viewers are becoming much fussier over quality though. I notice more and more comments about this on videos. Back when I started watching beauty videos people could get away with filming a slightly grainy video in a dark bedroom. These days people just won't watch that. They want to see everything clearly. I also watch cookery and craft videos and people now just won't watch a thirty minute tutorial unless the video is bright and clear.
Thankfully the cost of equipment is coming down. Just buying a studio light will help and those aren't that expensive. Also just educating yourself about how to get the most of your camera can really help. I have a friend who just uses her iPad's camera, but she has a tripod for it and always uses natural light and does manage to get some nice results.0 -
I have been thinking to do something on YouTube but I find it very difficult to create quality video. I think it's easier for people who are already working in YouTube friendly niches such as Makeup artist, Hair dressers, Entertainer etc. They can just record their work and upload on YouTube.
Anyway, glad to know your channel is growing. Good luck with your work :-)0 -

Video quality doesn't have to be amazing, but a lot of mobiles and tablets can record in HD. There is really no excuse for having a dark, grainy video. Even if you don't own anything that records in HD, if you record in a room with natural light coming in it should be enough for a decent quality video.
A lot of people may consider it low quality as it is not HD, but that certainly doesn't mean it's unwatchable.
While it is nice to have the proper equipment it is not always needed, especially when starting out. Place a camera on top of a pile of books or DVDs or on a shelf to get the height you want rather than buy a tripod. Film in a place with good natural light instead of buying a studio light. Use free editing software that comes on the computer (e.g. Windows Movie Maker) instead of buying software.
As you say, natural light and an ipad can give some nice results.
It's possible to do quite a lot with very little.0 -

A lot of people doing similar things can make it harder to be found.
If you're creating good quality content there is far more to it than simply recording and uploading.
For example, for a makeup artist, they'd have to decide what makeup they were going to talk about, possibly write out a script or talking points, work out the best camera angles, make sure it will all be well lit, film it (which can have issues. If they did something wrong it could be awkward to refilm or it may involve moving the camera to get the best shots, for example). After that they need to edit it all together, upload it and add links. It can take hours to do that.
Same kind of thing for hairdressing.
For entertaining, you need to write out scripts, possibly find other people to be in the video, learn the scripts, find any props needed, work out the best camera angles and check lighting. There is bound to be some scenes that you film multiple times either due to mistakes or because you need to film from a different angle. You may need to find sound effects or music (avoiding copyrighted audio).
After that you have the editing stage, which can be many hours of cutting, selecting best shots, adding audio, possibly adding effects etc. Only then can it be uploaded.
Once all that has been done the videos then need promoting.
Some videos will be quicker and easier to film than others, but no categories have it easier.
If you have ideas for videos why not try creating some and see how they do?0
