How long should £40 Headphones work?

Options
I bought some own brand Amazon headphones from themselves about 9 months ago for around £40. Every time I move around the right hand speaker has started to cut out intermittently. Would this be a reasonable time for the product to work reliably? I suppose the retailer could argue this is normal wear and tear and perhaps the wire has accidentally got pulled once too often. Is it worth reclaiming?

Perhaps if they were manufactured so that the wires could be accessed and resoldered there would be little need for this.

I'd expect a £40 set to last at least a couple of years however why they've failed is the important bit, not the fact that they have failed.

If its happened due to physical damage (ie the wire being pulled on) then thats not something the retailer can be held liable for - the exception being if its marketed as being able to withstand that sort of abuse.

If used reasonably carefully I would expect them to last a lot more than 9 months.

Legally Amazon could refuse to help unless you provide evidence any fault was inherent. But I suspect they will replace them without question unless there is evidence of physical misuse.

3 weeks? Daughter was wearing some and i didnt notice and playing around i pulled her chair away from the desk and it ripped the wire out. She got the whip out until i had stripped the wiring and resoldered them.

    Good as new now.

My £3.99 ones only lasted 12 years. Cannot remember where i bought them though?

Contact Amazon, describe the fault and see what they say.

My lads headphones last anything from 2 weeks to 2 years. he plays online games and when things tend not to go his way you hear a scream and then things get thrown about, the headphones, mouse and keyboard take the brunt. lucky he pays for his own replacements.

It's also not as uncommon as you might think, the problem is very real. The kids nowadays don't put a real value on anything, or at least until they realise their moment or rage has a real price when they get thown across the room.

Plenty of adults (even men in their 40's) do it too!

One cousin of mine is a neighbour and shares a house wall with another cousin. She regularly hears him flipping out at games and he's in his mid 30's! If you didn't know hes one of the most quiet nicest guys otherwise, it would probably be quite intimidating to hear.

Amazon immediately offered to replace them no questions asked, so a very good service. I had to sent the old one back though or else they would charge me.
