default date query

My Husband carried out a credit check a few years ago on Noddle, the rating was poor but we understand that after 6 years it is seen as cleared and he can begin to improve the rating.

Unfortunately, when he logged on yesterday a new debt has appeared on the report which says default. The debt was taken on in 2010, he defaulted on payments in 2011 but the date it showed on the report is Sept 2016. Can anyone tell us if we have to wait 6 years from Sept 16 before it clears, or will it clear 6 years from 2011? Also, can we pay this debt off even if it is recorded as defaulted, and will his make a difference to the credit rating? Thank you!
