How can I catch this spider!

Options
For the past 10 days or so I have had a spider decide it likes my kitchen so wanted to at least catch it or worse comes to worse use hoover on it.

It sits in corner next to my bathroom sink and right next to my washing machine and everytime I get close it runs under the machine.

I just dont want to stand on it when doing washing, but also everything I have stored around there like bottles of juice are now covered in webs so its annoying and I worried it may be making a nest there.

What can I easily do to catch it?

Have you tried a long handled feather duster I keep one just for spider catching. For some reason they seem to crawl onto it and then I shake it outdoors.

You could clean the spiders webs off and just ignore it. It will go away of its own accord. Its possibly not the same spider anyway. ;)

If you know where he sits, if it's the same spot, you could set up your vacuum cleaner so the end of the pipe is right beside where he sits. Then turn it on, but leave it unplugged. Then, plug it in in another room but leave the socket switch turned off.

Then walk away. An hour later or so .... just flick that switch ... he won't know what's hit him.

We have a monster one (or several) that run along the hearth mat during the evening, I pick up my feet if it veers in my direction and the dog just opens one eye and ignores it. Neither OH or I will harm them and he is ok with just "hoovering" up all the webs every few days. I used to freak out if I saw one in the bedroom, but am able to just ignore them now:D

    That made me laugh :rotfl:

oh poor thing! Leave it alone! It's not doing you any harm.

We have an enormous one called Jimmy who lives down our bath plug hole. Every time we want to have a bath we have to carefully lift him out and put him on the floor to avoid drowning him. I haven't yet resorted to putting insects in the bath to feed him but he's grown quite massive over time and is now a spectacular specimen!

If you do eventually vacuum the evil creature, change the vacuum bag immediately. If not, the spider will give birth to millions more spiders and you will never get rid of them....they will climb up the vacuum hose and cause merry hell. I speak the truth. x

No idea if I got it or not as tried yesterday as managed to just about reach it without scaring it with the hose and turned it on and it looked like it ran under the machine but hours later it still hadn't come back out.

Then I used washing machine for first time in 2 weeks so it could of scared it off too.

Do you have a plastic spider you could get your hands on?

We had a huge one in the bathroom ds spotted it and called me to look, oh I said I think that is even bigger than your plastic spider so off he went to get plastic spider and put it next to real spider (it was bigger !). We then left them both in the bathroom. Next morning I went to cheek and real spider was dead :eek:

I felt terrible :o I have no idea if plastic spider contributed to his unfortunate demise, he was in the corner of the room, plastic spider was placed so if he was scared of it he would not have been able to escape from the corner so maybe that was why, I don't know :(

This is a long winded way to catch it, but do you perhaps know an old lady who'd swallow a fly?
