Hi all,
I have had a credit card with M and S for years. Hubby is an additional card holder.
Received a letter the other day wishing to update their details etc of the additional card holder.
They are looking for as an example passport, driving license, bank statements. I have to provide them with 2 examples and get someone in authority to sign them as well.
I am very very reluctant to send photocopies thru the post to be honest
I can see myself having to do this in case they close the account. Anyone else in the same boat
regards

This sounds a bit over the top to me, generally additionally cardholders aren't even credit checked, as the main cardholder is always liable for any debt. So why they would want this information doesn't sit well with me.0

Part of HSBC's paranoid money laundering stable door closing at a guess.0 -
this is in part of their letter Q and A and im still put off showing them our bank details and what we spend it on, i have no probs if say we were applying for a mortgage,
why do you ask about my income and out goings?
This is to understand where your funds are coming from and going to as part of our ongoing efforts to protect you, and us, from fraud and financial crime.
dont you already have his information
knowing who our customers are and understanding how they use their accounts ensures we can do this. To protect us both, we have to ensure that the information is accurate, up to date, and complete.0 -
Completely over the top. TOTAL paranoia has set in. Their arrogance is breath-taking; "Keep YOU safe": poppycock, big time.
Have nothing to do with it. My recommendation would be to stop using the card - pay it off or whatever. Either ignore them completely, or write a stinging letter telling them what a bunch of twonks they are. Include the credit cards cut up into many pieces and demand they never contact you again. Alternatively, roll up their letter tightly and send it back to them with suitable instructions for its application.
It's bad enough HSBC are imposing this outrage on their current account customers, but to trawl credit card accounts as well is taking the mick.0 -

Yes, very reasoned. You think this sort of thing is okay? And as for them referring to it as 'Keep you safe'. I don't bloody think so! More like put you in danger! Think about it. These gits at HSBC want copies of your personal documents and other private information to do who knows what with it? Lose it, sell it, have it hacked or stolen? If they haven't got it in the first place none of that could happen, but if they've got it you've lost control of it. Safer for you if they haven't got it. So how, !!!!!!, does this keep YOU safe?0 -

GingerBob is so predictable. If people don't like what banks and card issuers are asking for, don't provide it. Go somewhere else. They're not bothered, there are always people who are happy to send what is asked for.0 -
I concur, HSBC suck bigtime, working overseas at the time, they grilled me as to why I had a regular direct debit set up to a local COUNCIL (!) for garage rental.
Can you believe this sh*t, to keep a car in, you idiots !!!!
As Ginger says, the Yanks took them to the cleaners for their indiscreet money laundering activities - Google Sir Alan Stanford, for instance, and his missing millions.....and guess who handled some of that ?

We need to tell HSBC that their demands are unacceptable and vote with out feet/cash.0 -
Yes-and like you--feel it is ridiculous. Luckily we have other cards--so will ignore the m&S request-pay off the next bill in full--then close the account.
I applaud efforts to sustain security--and would happily fully co-operate if this request concerned my prime bank account-but not a store card.
The initiative( if it can be called that!) suggests to me that the business is in the grips of a crisis at the moment. We occasionally use the stores for food items--but I hardly ever see anything i like in the clothing sections. Lets see what happens.
I have also contacted BBCRadio4 "MoneyBox" re this issue.0
