Proving I don't owe council tax

It sounds like borntosleep has paperwork showing the tenancy ended July 11. The period unpaid and being chased is April to August 2012. So should be fine.
I'd agree from what has now been clarified - providing they can prove they ceased being a tenant in July 11 then the rest of the issues regarding where he was resident are immaterial (the letter from the landlord should confirm this vacation).
Even if he'd stayed in the property as a 'resident' (i.e. a non-tenant) then the actual tenants held the higher council tax liability and so are the people the council need to be looking at (the copy of the tenancy will confirm that he was no longer a tenant)
CraigI no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
May not matter (to you) now, but look at your tenancy agreement. Is your name the only name listed as 'tenant', or are there 2 or more names listed?borntosleep wrote: »
I believe this was not legally a HMO, the property was initially rented whole, not per room, by a group of people - so I believe it was joint tenancy on the property.
.
How many people lived in the property?0
