This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning all,

Still dark here so cant see what the weather is doing but it feels cold, don't like being up at this time at the weekend but we have to leave here at 7.30 to go and collect dd's cape etc, the actual graduation starts at 9.30 so hopefully we can get a cup of tea somewhere.

We went out yesterday and bought bits and bobs food wise, we will collect French stick today we have various cheese's a nice ham which I cooked yesterday and will slice, sausage rolls olives crisps etc, we have beer and fizz so should be a good day. We will just nibble on this today so no real cooking.

DD is terrified of tripping up on the stage in her high heels fingers crossed she wont !

Have a great day all and hugs where needed xxx

  • Morning folks and thanks REDRUBY for kicking off. I hope today goes well, I'm sure it will. Your picnic sounds yummy!

It's sounded rather wild at times through the night and the road outside is covered in leaves. Nonetheless a fine day is forecast so that's something!

Apart from a big food shop and making a start on washing the mountain of bedding from DS and DGD's beds, I felt just too weary to start the promised cleaning. That will start today instead. DS called for some stuff stored in the garage (golf clubs, car speakers etc) but is leaving all his tools/decorating equipment etc out there till he finds somewhere more permanent. He stayed for lunch then headed off to buy a bookcase! He's gradually unpacking all the boxes and finding homes for everything and thinks he will be happy in the apartment for now - plus he's got distance between himself and the toxic ex and no danger of bumping into her!

Just Mr TA and I for lunch so I have some chicken pieces defrosting to make a casserole, with a selection of veg from the Aldi Super 6! They have a nice veg selection this time!

Have a good day and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Especially LAINEY and DM and all yesterday's injured! Take care one and all xx

  • Good morning all x
Thanks for starting us off redruby. Have a wonderful day and enjoy making memories x
Shoulder is not too bad today the bruising us starting to go down.
Date night was a weird one last night as the local pictures had nothing on either of us wanted to see so after a lovely meal we just came home and curled up watching dvds. There is a film we both want to see so we are going on Friday night hopefully.
Dinner today is a beef roast. Need to get the WM on as well but will do that when DH is up.
Got DD1 and DGD over today for brunch as normal so don't expect to get load's done.
Might have a wander round the market after we have eaten but will have to wait and see what the weather is like first.
    Anyhoo best get on.
Hugs to all in need xx
    Bright Blessings xx

Thanks for the thread RR, glad to hear your good news TA, hugs to Lainey & Hilstep.

The fish have been fed, the dog's had his morning constitutional, my L&M has a cuppa, I have a bowl of porridge and a dog drooling at my feet, he must like porridge.

I'll do egg and bacon for my L&M when her gets up and then we are going to DD1's and taking DD2's littlest with us, we will plumb in her DW & WM and look after the littlies whilst DD1 goes to collect some curtains.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning everyone

redruby - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and myself up and enjoying first peaceful cuppas. Boys still in their pits. DS1 surprised us yesterday as he was awake and got up before we left at 9am yesterday. I thought he would go back to bed at some during the day but he didn't, and when we got home at nearly 6pm, he was ok, but later during the evening got a bit grumpy, but took himself off to bed just after 9.30pm. Our day was lovely, got to catch up with friends we haven't seen for a while, most of which we'll see again in November then probably not until 2017. We stopped off and had a cooked breakfast which was lovely and well cooked, set us up for the day. We just had cheese and biscuits etc for a snack during the evening. Today we'll have roast lamb, roasties, mash, carrots, broc, kale, peas, yorkshires and gravy, I'll get pack ups etc organised then will chill for the afternoon. DS2's bags are packed ready for him to go away tomorrow. Boys visited grandparents yesterday so we may not go today as it just makes cooking lunch late.

    Have good Sundays' everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

Have a wonderful day RR, soak up the pleasure of your DD graduating. My mum cried at mine as her memories took her back through my tough times at school. I'll raise my cup of tea to you all.

Still dark and mum has blinds do I can't see out. It's doubly strange, blinds and central heating (which makes a noise when it first comes on).

Yesterday we did two lots of shopping and the mum began turning her place upside down looking for something she swore she handled the day before but now couldn't find. She seemed obsessed with this, looking in places which had already been searched and then doing it all again. I got really worried and upset last night watching her, nothing would make her stop until I got a bit angry with her. (Pretend anger I have to add). Hopefully she'll have slept well and the obsession will have worn off. She wants to go into town this morning so we'll see how she feels.

We took piles of stuff to a charity shop and other stuff will go to the tip on my way home.

I was thinking of going across to the Burrell museum today as it's closing for four years after today, I'll make a decision later depending on what mum wants to do. Only thing putting me off is that I imagine I'm not the only person with the same idea!

    Anyway, happy Sunday to everyone.

Have a fantastic day RR, you must be so proud.
    Hope you're ok LW.
You'll need to go home for a rest Gers!

It's been raining overnight, started spitting yesterday afternoon so the driveway didn't get done. DS2 and GF called in to empty (and clean) the car, the trains from here were off so I took them into Glasgow so they could get the train to Edinburgh. They had a great time in the Highlands and bought me a fantastic old map of Dunbartonshire (where we live) that I will get framed - I have 3 huge old maps on the wall in the living room so it will go well with them.

I'm off to the allotment today, there is a talk arranged with someone from the RHS which should be interesting. Soup and a sandwich included.

Hope you all have a good Sunday. Take care. XX

Forgot to say hello to taplady, good to hear from you!

    Morning everyone,

Hope you have a lovely day RR
Healing blessings to LW and LWW

Not a bad morning here, we are enjoying our cuppas and the cricket is on, again :)

Will head off in a while to pick Mum up and have her here for the day, she texted me last night to say that she had thoroughly enjoyed her drive out with DB, they went to a village where we used to live and sent me a photo of the two of them outside a sweet shop that we used to frequent as children, can't believe it's still there!
I have my dried fruit soaking in brandy as plan to make my Xmas cake today, it's something that Mum and I have always done together so it will be bittersweet for sure but cannot miss the opportunity to do it one last time. My SIL and nieces are also coming over this afternoon so did do some baking yesterday, only scones and cookies, that way we will just have soup for lunch and enjoy afternoon tea all together.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

Good Morning everyone, a bright and sunny start to the day here in north Kent. We seem to be getting the last of the summer here, although its not that warm, just to see the sun out is a bonus as we will soon enough be into the grey days of winter.

Sunday morning again, and another week has whooshed by, I swear time is speeding up the older I get :)

Normal sunday morning routine for me ,menu making, veg prep for the week whilst listening to the Archers :)

Eldest DD popped in yesterday afternoon instead of this morning as her and her OH were off to a wedding do last night and were staying over as well. Then they are going down to their caravan to start closing it up for the winter.

So a quiet morning for me:) just pottering around and taking my time doing it.I have an 18th birthday card to make for a family member so that is also on my to-do list .

I made several cakes to take to DDs later this afternoon for the boys as half term looms and they can eat their own weight in cake when they are at home :):):) also made a tin of Melting Moment biscuits for them as well.I shall be a popular Grandma this afternoon, and have secured many cups of tea for this week made by grateful grandsons :):):)

Hope you all have a good day and hugs for those who are sad and down and are having a tough time at the moment
Lainey enjoy your day with your Mum xxx

    Take care all

    Morning all,

Lovely bright day here but windy and chilly,my ears are still recovering from being buffeted on our dogwalk.I'm feeling a bit better after my horrible stomach bug and had something light for tea last night & porridge this morning but still not much of an appetite.Weighed myself out of curiosity,5lbs down but dont recommend it as a method!:D
RRuby-hope you have a fantastic day at the graduation.
Lainey, enjoy making your cake with DMum.
    Hi Taplady
Jackie -my dear departed MIL:A used to make Melting moments a lot for our 2 growing lads, thanks for the memory jogger :)
Its my youngest brothers birthday today so need to drop his card & bottle off in a bit.No GC today,DGS is away for a couple of days and DGD came yesterday.Did a bit of shopping yesterday and got some steak for the men for tea, easy & quick with chips, not sure what I'll feel like.In my absence in the kitchen this week a few things seem to have gone untouched and gone off, some cooked ham and chicken, strawberries and cream ,mushrooms so cleared them & put them in the green waste, def beyond using up :(

Bit of a lazy day then,no doubt the burner will be lit later,& might get the crochet out again,DGD was 'helping 'me choosing colours yesterday, she seems to have quite a good eye for picking them :)

    Enjoy your Sunday xx
