Mobile Phone Insurance through the network or through my bank?

I'm just wondering what would be better?
My mum got an iPhone 4 on contract with Vodafone back when they came out, and I think she paid about £12 per month for insurance, and the button stopped working on it and so she took it in, they sent it away for a week and they gave her some awful phone for a week and left her not being able to do very much, whilst the staff in the shop just laughed at her. In the end they didn't repair it and just gave her a refurbished one I think.
It's safe to say that she left them and moved to EE after that, but since then, neither of us have really trusted the insurance offered by the mobile companies themselves.
Anyway, I just started a contract with O2 on an iPhone 7 Plus, and I would really like to get it insured after I was victim to a mugging last year and my mum's house insurance refused to pay out for it. She changed one of her policies with them though and they paid out for when my step-dad dropped his down the toilet. I did have Halifax Ultimate Reward but I closed this for other reasons, but I felt safe knowing my phone was insured with them.
Now I'm thinking of getting Barclays' Tech Pack, and later I will get the travel pack too, or First Direct's First Directory. But when thinking of covering mobile phones, where is better to insure it, through the bank maybe? Or through the mobile network themselves?

What are the excess amounts?
How long will they take to repair before giving you a new phone?
Those are the questions I would like knowing before making my mind up.0
