  • We have friends in Germany and Ireland who all swore that prices leapt massively after the change to euros - so maybe the same factor is in play.

My local butcher charges £16 () for a kg of mince!!

Blooming Heck Kboss - is it Unicorn mince ;)

I know what you mean though, no matter how much we would all like to eat sustainable meat from a quality source, sometimes the cost is prohibitive - now it's just mainly 2 of us, I try to have less but better quality, we eat veggie at least once a week and bulk meals out with veg. In season we get game and fish from hubby and friends (we all swap the goodies round), but when you are time restricted as well as budgeting it's a balancing act that will get harder before (hopefully) it eases up - I think seasonal is the way to go

I forsee (no offense) the media and public stockpiling food then screaming how the shelves are empty due to brexit when in fact its down to the consumer fear buying in bulk.

I remember as a kid and even now to a extent whenever something happens that is out of the norm people go crazy with stockpiling like its the end of the world, its most common at Easter or Christmas when people act like the shops will be closed for a month, its also common and where the majority of childhood memories I have when theres more than a tiny bit of snow so deliveries are late (or delayed) the memories I have were because my parents didn't drive and lived in countryside, imagine them going to town and checking everywhere to get a single loaf of bread when people were walking around with like 6 or more loaves and these people would be the ones complaining about short supplies!

... and of course, we will all expire if we don't have bread for a week :rotfl:

It always make me wonder - when I see folks with several trolleys piled high with food before Christmas - where do they store it all?

It still happens now, one whiff of snow on the weather forecast and the supermarkets are mobbed with people emptying the bread aisle. Complete madness.

I always wonder - how much of it will actually get eaten and how much of it will sit in a cupboard until Easter then get thrown away, only to be replaced with more.

It's on a Sunday this year, so no need to buy anything more than a large Sunday roast for me. In fact, I might not even do a roast this year, just some buffet nibbles and let them help themselves, they can graze all day!!!
