Hive Hub

SG are giving me a Hive Hub and a couple of smart LED bulbs for getting my gas and electricity from them.

I don't have a smart phone but I suppose I could one if I could use my ASDA payg sim.

Any recommendations?

I have a Kindle that I have downloaded the app too but is there a way to control them from my Windows 10 computer as well?

I also have a Windows 7 notebook.

You're going to buy a smartphone just so you can turn a couple of light bulbs on and off remotely?

A £12.99 mains timer will do pretty much the same for you.

    Christmas is coming.

The bulbs are just the start, the heating could be next.

Is there an OS I could put on a USB stick that I could boot from on my notebook that would enable me to run the Hive app?

I don't have Hive, but I've seen things on their website which suggest you'd be able to login to a website and control things from there. In which case you'd be able to use your Windows computer to control it.

    For instance

    Yes I think you'd need a Windows 10 Phone.
Which very few people have. And in my opinion buying one now would be like buying a Betamax video recorder rather than VHS, for those who remember them.

The Hive app works on Windows 7,8 and 10. It will work on a computer. It also works on android so what is your phone working on?
Mine works on computer, phone and tablet

    Hi,
I have hive and can confirm I can control my heating and hot water from my iPhone, iPad and PC.
However you do not HAVE to use the app. Most of the time I use the hive control unit.
