Questions about engineered wood floor

  • An engineered wood floor construction allows very minimal movement as opposed to that of a solid wood, hence why it can be floated instead of fixed to the sub-floor. A standard PVA Wood Glue in the tongue and groove is sufficient to hold the flooring in place.

Parquet must be fixed (glued) whether it's solid or engineered due to the fact there are several more pieces required in laying the floor to cover the same area. More individual pieces means more space for movement, and the direction of the movement will be more than just right to left and front to back, but also at different angles due to the design of a parquet floor once laid.

Please make sure that if you do glue any wood floor to a subfloor, that it is a flexible wood floor adhesive as standard glue, will harden and does not allow for the minute movements when the flooring expands or contracts with temperature.

As for the direction of flooring, it is generally run along the longest wall, however in the end, if you're going onto concrete it is personal preference. The rooms will seem to flow if run along the longest directs, however depending on width of planks used, may make the room look narrower, but longer,
or vice versa if laid the opposite way, the room may look wider but shorter.

    I hope this helps.
