Another Tesco Parking Initiative!!

I wonder how long it will be before they wake up and smell the coffee?

"But this has made a huge difference to customers – I have literally had people hug me and shake my hand in the store and say how brilliant it is and 'Thank you, you've finally done something about it'."

But the store local to me is introducing this when there are easily available spaces, never have I seen the car park full. Has turned the whole town against Tesco.

    Propaganda report by Tesco

Have to spend a minimum amount for 2 hrs free parking. ???

Time limitation = less sales for Tesco.

Where do these dreamers come from ?
  • Free parking for 2 hours if spend over £5.00, good idea. £70.00 FINE over 2 hours, presume locals were using car park without shopping there. Don't necessarily agree with it but understandable if I'm right. A check with the planning permissions might be of interest.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

2 hrs ??? is their a grace period for waiting some 20 mins at check out when it's busy while the check out staff prattle on to a customer about what was on TV last night ?

Not for me, if they want my money, they need to respect customers.

But hey ho, 2 hrs now up, off to the next supermarket for another 2 hrs to finish the shopping

They have exactly the same scheme at tescos slough, you put your vrn in and it comes up with anpr images of about five cars with supposedly similar numbers.
Now the cynical might argue that's just another way to catch people to hit the wrong image, but why give five alternatives when you put in your exact vrn?

I wonder if Tescos have considered any planning rules/regualtions that may affect the car parks, and even advertising consent?

I know of at least one Tesco where the planning conditions stated that they must provide free parking so that people may use the local facilities/shops, i think there's even a sign in the car park pointing to the "local Shops"
    From the Plain Language Commission:

"The BPA has surely become one of the most socially dangerous organisations in the UK"
  • For most of us 2 hours in a supermarket is more than enough, however I do understand their reasoning due to the locals abusing the free parking. I see St Stephens is a shopping centre in middle of town so any free parking in the centre would be abused. At least they can justify it by increasing sales due to customers being able to park.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • Recently took my infirm mother to Tesco in Wath Upon Dearne to get some photo's done for her blue badge. Haven't been there for ages and didn't notice the signs until we'd left the shop (I'd actually parked directly next to one!), The APNR cameras must have been installed fairly recently, just shows even someone like myself who is now much more wary of these scumbag parking companies could easily be caught out.
It's a busy shop but this is definitely a money making scheme as Wath is a very small town and opposite Tesco is a fairly large free car park! (or at least it was about a year ago), so there is no real reason anyone would try parking there all day to go to work anyway.
If I'd spotted them before I'd gone into the shop words with the manager would have been said, needless to say i doubt I'll be visiting again.

A cynic might think that the 30 mins free parking that is still available is just there to get round any planning conditions if they were simply required to offer free parking without a specification of a minimum/maximum stay time (some free council parking is only for 30 mins so hard for a council to argue it is not enough if it wasn't specified beforehand).
