Securing floating staircase (adding rising and stringer etc)...Carpenters costs?

Hi,
We are renovating a house, which has a 1970s floating staircase, which also has no stringer (so a gap between treads and wall). We had planned on a whole new staircase but the budget is disappearing rapidly so the next best option is to install risers, stringer and so on to secure the stairs for our children.
We will carpet over it anyway so it won't matter too much. Attached is a photo, the winder section is already 'boxed in' so it would just need 9 risers in total. We would also like something done with the handrail ideally to give it a newel post at the end.
I also like the idea of adding an understairs door. (I'm basically looking to turn what we have into a traditional looking staircase)
I'm wondering how much a Carpenter might charge for this?

If you're confident in doing it, places like http://www.tradestairs.com/acatalog/short_stairs.html do ready-made stairs in short sections/kits. You could then employ a carpenter to fit them, and put in a door under them, if you weren't confident to do that yourself.
There are other firms that offer a similar service - I use one quite often at work, but the name escapes me right now!Mortgage - £[STRIKE]68,000 may 2014[/STRIKE] 45,680.0
