In addition to my previous post, I would encourage EVERYONE who receives one of these calls to ring the BT nuisance call line (number in the phone book) EVERYTIME they get one. Hopefully if enough people cause a problem for BT (holding up their call centres, ie costing them money) then they will have to sort out some action.

While I agree with the sentiment I can't agree with the action. If it is costing BT money then we can expect the cost of our line rental etc. to go up to cover the nuisance calls that they are getting ... therefore it becomes counter productive.

There is nothing that BT can do - if they block one number then the caller will just use another - ad infinitum. At best I think that BT should be able to put a block on ALL foreign calls if requested - but that would not suit us since we regularly communicate with people in different countries.

Well I dont communicate with people from other countries so that would suit me down to the ground. I have had this call once at home and twice at work so far...............

She also added for good measure about the unfortunate elderly gent who pushed the button, got connected to the premium rate number and ended up with an extortionate bill. Nothing like trivialising someones complaint to wind them up even more.
Not possible - that's an urban myth (see the 'Dial 9 scam' thread in the Home Phones forum).
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").
