Church Stretton station

Options
I am considering a weekend walking holiday in the area.
Is the above far from the town centre? I am looking at off peak train tickets/times. I would get a bus transfer to and from the station at a fixed time. If I had time to kill before my train, would it be practical to spend time in the town centre or is it too far from the station?

Thanks

A quick look on Google maps shows the shops only a short walk.

I would have classed Church Stretton as a large village rather than a town. Maybe they have delusions of grandeur

    Station is pushing the description.

The station is unmanned. There are two platforms with shelters, self service machines and help points.

Trains passing through there tend to be request trains - like a bus, if no one rings the bell, the train won't stop.

It's an exceptionally pretty place, but bleak out of the summer walking season.

It's the gateway to the Shropshire Hills...
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

Carding mill valley is Shropshires best-kept secret
  • Have you checked for buses from Church stretton to your destination?
It is a rural place not sure were buses run to from here, shrewsbury ludlow but that the same as the train line.
The station is at the bottom of the town, its only a small town(village to some people) think the only chain shop is the co op and maybe a spar, it does have an indoor antique market to malander round on a wet day
It also rains alot in Stretton so take a brolly, are you walking the mynd?

It's ok. The company with which I would be booking arranges a minibus transfer from the station. Yes I think I would be walking the Mynd (with a group and walks leader). Which is the best time of year to do so?
