Easter island

I'm trying to plan a holiday for our 25 wedding anniversary in 3 years time. One place we'd love to go is Easter island ( 4days) . Just one slight problem is not wife hates long haul flights and the only place you can fly from to get to Easter island is chile, that's a 14 hour flight then a 5 hour flight to Easter Island.
So I'm trying to find a way to break down the 14 hour flight time to get to Chile.
At this stage in just throwing my holiday idea out there for any suggestions to make it a better trip for my wife.
We are not cruise type people. (They only offer day stop at places) We do walking holidays generally.
Thanks in advance on any ideas.

It would probably be helpful to know how long you want the holiday to be in total, and what your budget is.

  • I'd have thought you could fly via the USA.

An alternative might be to price up Iberia business class from Madrid. Totally changes the dynamics of a long flight.

Do a short hop from the uk a couple of days before.

Stopover in Miami maybe? Both the far north and south of Chile are spectacular in very different ways, you can have a very varied holiday!
  • It would be very difficult to break into short haul flights. Personally I find a 14 hour flight better than a 9 hour one, as you don't have as much airport hassle, if it is overnight then there is plenty of time to get some sleep, whereas on a shorter flight by the time you've had dinner and watched a film then there's only 5 hours til breakfast! If you can find a deal from a European city in business class it could be worth a diversion.

Try Delta via Atlanta. 10 hour flight legs.
