Car insurance renewal following accident

Hi everyone,
Am looking for some advice on car insurance.
My annual cost is around £200 but back in February I was in a serious accident after another car ran me off the road. The police at the scene said it was pretty obvious what happened and impact was on my side of the road etc. However, we are still waiting for the police report - nothing has happened since February, other than all parties advising insurers/getting solicitors on board. I know these things take time, but now I have had my renewal through and it is over £800! I don't believe I can get another quote as I don't think any other insurer would touch me at the moment? So do I have to lump it and pay up, then try to claim the cost back?

If you stay with your insurer then once the claim is concluded by your insurer getting full reimbursement of all their outlay on your claim off the third party insurer you should get your NCD reinstated and your premium adjusted (and a refund of any reduction)
If you want to go elsewhere, then explain your circs to your chosen insurer and ask if they will amend your premium once your NCD is reinstated and refund you in full any reduction from inception.
If they agree get it confirmed in writing before you buy!0
