AVG free software problem

Have used AVG free addition anti virus for some time but now have a problem.
I tried to do a full scan on my pc and things started ok but the scan only managed to get to 1% and would not move on, in the past it worked fine.
After 45mins I gave up but could not stop it running, I have tried to uninstall the program but it stops after about 25% done.
I have tried to repair the program but it runs to about 98% and stops.
So I now have a program that does not work at all and can't get rid of it so my pc has no anti virus running and I can't switch on microsoft defender until I can remove it.
Can anyone help please.

You may have a corrupt file on the system, run chkdsk to eliminate this possibility, if you don't know how see here:
