Where can I buy fabric scraps from?

Does anyone know where to buy cheap fabric scraps from (small off cuts etc) as I am making sensory blankets for my work and struggling to find small scraps of different materials to sew on.

Online the majority I have found are "designer" fabrics and too costly.

Anyone have any ideas?

I picked up a bargain bag of fabric scraps at a quilting show but they were all quilting style cottons.

There are some scrap stores across the country that may be able to help out - these can be few and far between though. You'd have to google for local Ones.

In dewsbury there is a mill shop that sells different fabrics by weight so may be able to help out with little bits.

Failing that try freecycle and charity shops for their odds and soda bin?

Do you have an Abakhan near you? You can buy scraps which are sold be weight and you can buy just what you need. Hope this helps
  • Just visit at the price comparison websites to get best rates online.
  • Local markets often have fabric/haberdashery stalls that you could probably get some bargains in.
Of could you perhaps look at using old bed sheets, cushion covers, blankets and other things made from fabric? Charity shops are often a gold mine for that sort of thing.
  • Last year I bought online quilt cotton scrap assortment at https://www.equilter.com got approx 3 1/2 yards for usd 15.95

Many years ago I used to make rag dolls. I found a gold old fashioned jumble sale was the best place for me to pick up poly cotton (sheets, pillowcases etc) for the bodies and floral type print cottons old nightdresses and little girls dresses for the dresses and petticoats.

  • Have you tried your local market?

Or else if you have a tailors near you, they sometimes have old scraps of fabric you can buy on the cheap :)
