Long term diversion, can I claim for the additional mileage/expenses
Right to be as straight to the point as I can...
My route to work will be subject to a diversion for a planned 1 month period (likely to extend) while access to a business is moved further away from a rail crossing:
The planning app can be viewed on the Cornwall Council Planning Portal application is : PA15/079878 ( I cannot link as a new member)
Now this will add approximately 4miles to my commute each way 5days a week for a month (with the dates noted its almost 5 weeks)
If I round this up to 5 weeks and calculate this would be 200miles extra in the month, so I feel a considerably increase in my monthly cost to get to work
(There is also another worker in the household that will incur the same increase)
My question is, can I claim from either the Council or the business that are causing this closure for this increase in cost?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would very much doubt it.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Also a direct quote from one of the documents on the planning app...
"The Design and Access Statement states that 46 trains, 2290 vehicles and 75 pedestrians or cyclists cross the level crossing each day "
Surely that amount of use daily warrants keeping the road usable for as much of the works as possible!

No.
I know I do a lot of travelling at night and find lots of roads close now for roadworks adding divisions, and extra time, but there is nothing you can do.
I think there is a road in Scotland which ended up with around a 100 mile division when it closed.0 -
No.
Notwithstanding the above, 200 miles at 35mpg equates to around £30 if fuel is 115p. You want to present a claim for £30?0 -
They closed a part of the M6 for well over a year and did no repair work for the most part, probably more like 3000 vehicle per hour than per day, puts your diversion into perspective.
Even if you could how will you prove that you made that journey every single day without any diversion to go shopping etc?
Have you written to the weather forecasters and claimed compensation when they got it wrong?
Dont forget to claim from the BBC when they show a repeat also.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

You're likely thinking of the diversion when the A83 past the Rest and Be Thankful is closed.
Or perhaps the A890 Stromeferry bypass diversion in Wester Ross.

well you could call it that or you could call it the 25p or whatever per mile.
Its more the added time that bothers me!
I cannot see how they can justify a full month road closure for a business to alter their entrance, I bet they will retain access for themselves for this period!!! I could understand a week but a month? surely with the land they have the majority of work could be done without need to close the road.0
