Good time to buy a new car?

We have a 10 year old car and were looking at replacing it next year. However, with the pound losing 18% of its value since the Brexit vote, and the general consensus seems to be that this, in the long term, imported goods will be more expensive - including cars, is this now a better time to buy another one?
Would be interested to have any thoughts on the matter - especially from anyone in the motor trade.
Thanks.

Are you thinking of buying an imported car? Why not buy British?0

Probably doesn't want to wait for a Morgan

Since that restricts him to Jazz, Civic, CRV, Astra, Avensis, Mini, Ford Jaguar, Landrover and the badly built French efforts from Nissan, I'd say there isn't much choice.
Personally, I won't touch another car unless the VIN starts with a J after my experiences with ones that start W, S and V
However, I think I might accept a new Allard if someone bought one for meI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

We haven't decided on the model yet. We are looking at the possibility of a Nissan - and I know that a lot of them are built in Sunderland BUT I also know (heard it on a radio programme) that they import a lot of their components (because of being unable to source them in the UK), so import costs will continue to be a factor in their price.0 -

Good question.
However ...
Let's suppose Jaguars are 100% British made, so their costs don't rise.
The falling pound means that BMW and Mercedes prices go up 20%.
Jaguar would be mad not to increase their prices too, though perhaps not quite as much.0 -

Nooooooooo!
From personal experience, build quality is worse than BL in the 1970s, and the Renault parts break and fall off.
They can hardly give the new Note away, but the qashqai sells like hot cakes for some reason so they are moving production abroad.
If you are after one of those, get a Dacia Duster, at least they are honest about the Renault parts, and the price is right for essentially the same car.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

It seems unlikely car prices will go down, too many external pressures, so I think if i was planning to buy soon, I'd buy now. I wonder if Christmas might be a good time to buy, I'm thinking people are usually focused on that and so car showrooms might be a bit quiet? Perhaps just before the end of the year, as month end is often put as a good time?
Anyone know?0 -
Buy before Xmas you get a 2016 car. Buy early Jan, still 66 reg but 2017 car (will have have been built in 2016, but 1st reg 2017)
if you intend keeping car for 10 yrs a pre Xmas lower price would be worth it.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
The price rises have already started. I bought my new car a couple of months ago for just this reason.

That would be my thinking - which will of course have an impact on residuals.0 -
