Rental Deposit Return

I am looking for advice on where to get advice, I suppose!
Myself and my partner vacated a rental property on 12 September 2016. I have only just heard back from the agency regarding the deposit deductions that the landlord wishes to make yesterday (19/10/2016) depsite numberous emails and phone calls before this.
The list of deductions is ridiculous and I would be going ahead to dispute these as they add up to £2400!!!
There are a couple we were expecting and happy to pay but I don't even want to pay these out of principle now.
Firstly, I was wondering what the time leads are on this? Are they able to request this amount so long after we vacated? It was also over the 10 days since I requested the deposit back by email (04/10/2016). I have tried Citizens Advice and the TDS where the deposit is registered but no one can give me a definite answer - who can I ask??
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

There is 6 years for the LL to chase you for any damage.
I cant see any other questions so will just say:
Whatever damage you did, pay for it, whatever you didn't do, don't. Go to ADR, provide your evidence and go from there.0
