Advice regarding non responding Creditor

Options
Hiya all,

I have a debt for which I have been paying back what I can afford over the last 3 months and will continue onto this month and beyond.

My contact has been with a solicitors who were originally responsive, I sent them a payment plan, this was rejected and they came back with an offer that was double what I could afford. My own plan will have the debt fully cleared within 2 years and is based on my income ( and budget plan through Stepchange )

My issue is that they did not respond to my amended payment plan and I have written to them twice to ask for confirmation that they have received payment with no response- both via recorded delivery

My question is what do I do? I am assuming I keep paying until I hear back from them but am obviously slightly concerned that they are not even acknowledging the payments made to them when asked.

Any advice would be very grateful and appreciated

    Hiya,

I am repaying them via bank transfer which is what they asked on the letter to me

I have double and triple checked all the details/ reference are correct and I know the debt is genuine and with them

Good. That provides proof the payments were made.

I trust you keep your bank statements stored safely?

  • I'd be tempted to write them a letter stating that if they don't reply within 14 days of the date of recorded delivery, then payments will stop.

Nothing motivates a solicitor like lost money ;)

I'd continue to make the payments.

A two-year timescale is more than reasonable and they could find a court gives them a worse deal if they went that route.

As long as you agree you owe this, and are happy to repay it at the present rate, just keep on doing what you are doing.
  • Just to clarify, I didn't mean actually stop paying, just that the threat should provoke a response...
  • Thanks for the responses,

Will pay like normal at the end of the month then will send a follow up letter again
