CCJ....4 years ago

I had a CCJ registered against me 4 years ago and was paid off within 6 months....so I understand it stays there for 6 years.

Would it benefit my credit rating if i paid for and got a certificate of satisfaction.

Thanks

    Hi Dazza

You are correct that the CCJ will show for six years - roughly another two to go before it drops off altogether.

Does your credit file already reflect the fact that the balance is fully settled? If so, getting a certificate of satisfaction won't do anything extra for it.

Your credit history just shows what is on the Register Of Judgements. The register of judgements and/or the county courts / high courts do not report to any CRA.

If it's been paid off you can apply to have the CCJ marked as "satisfied" in the register. But it will stay on the Register Of Judgements for six years.

Whether being satisfied looks better is debatable: The CCJ is still on the Register Of Judgements which is searched by the CRAs and whether the status of the CCJ is actually seen by lenders is also debatable. But if you can have it marked as "satisfied" why not?

In what way? The data would still be on your credit history and therefore available to financial institutions making lending decisions.
