Just bought two very expensive recliner sofas from John Lewis. Each sofa is a left and right hand unit that slots together to make one. One of the sofas is completely different one side with cushions, arm rest etc different and even the recliner part is skewed leaving a gaping hole and the recliners battle with each other. Called to say I want a replacement, just one side would do and they want to send a technician to repair. Not sure how and it would be easier to just replace. Surely I don't have to accept this ?

How long ago is just? You could go along the lines of rejecting them within the first 30 days.0

It was delivered last Thursday and they promised to call me yesterday and didn't so I called this morning. Just had JL on phone and they are saying they have the right to try one repair.~ Smile and light up your world ~~ ask, believe, receive ~0

Do you want a repair? You have the right to reject within 30 days. John Lewis know this and are usually very good. If you want to reject it, reject it. But if you want a repair or a replacement of one side (if that's possible) then ask them for that.0

You do not have the right to insist on a replacement over a repair.
Section 23 of The Consumer Rights Act says (amongst other things):(3) The consumer cannot require the trader to repair or replace the goods if that remedy (the repair or the replacement)—
(a) is impossible, or
(b) is disproportionate compared to the other of those remedies.
But as others have said, you do have the right to reject the goods for a full refund if they do not conform to contract.0 -
No harm in asking for a replacement. JL are usually exception with their CS. I'm sure they would rather keep the custom that face a rejection.0

A lefthand unit is slotted with a righthand unit to make one - just to explain.
To make matters worse, the larger recliner sofa when delivered was 2 x righthand sides and then I was told they were out of stock and would have to wait for restocking. On this one they say I can use it and that the whole thing will be replaced ! I have explained to them that by the time they send someone to 'repair' all the bits that are wrong on the smaller sofa it would be easier just to send replacement righthand unit to slot in, job done, fingers crossed.
I am disappointed as I was happy to spend such a large amount with them as I have always found their service very good. Just feel its gone horribly wrong and I don't feel very loved by JL :-(~ Smile and light up your world ~~ ask, believe, receive ~0 -
Perhaps it may be easier to get the technician to come out and they they can see the issues.0
