Barclays Additions Plus with Platinum Banking account being withdrawn

I logged on to my Barclays account yesterday and noticed a new document had been uploaded informing me that my Barclays Additions Plus with Platinum Banking account is to be converted to a regular account with the Tech and Travel Packs added. So for £2 extra a month I get less features!
I've had the same account for 43 years, never had an problem but this is a step too far. Now looking for a better option, possibly Nationwide.

Is Additions or Platinum banking being withdrawn? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

No idea, I can find no public announcement that the accounts are being withdrawn and the Barclays website is still offering them. This includes the Additions Plus which disappears on the 13th January 2017 according to the letter I have.0

I also logged into my bank account and found exactly the same so it looks like these accounts are being discontinued for existing customers now as well as for new customers. Now need to seriously consider my options.0

To be fair to the OP you have had the same account and sort code for 43 years, this will stay the same, but the offering and the name of the account has changed countless times during those years. Is Additions or Platinum banking being withdrawn?
Platinum is being withdrawn and Additions is changing.
If you want similar benefits to Additions (some terms are better, other are worse) then it is 2 pounds a month more but if you only want the mobile phone insurance (tech pack) or the travel insurance/car breakdown (travel pack) if works out cheaper.
According to the letter I got they are withdrawing platinum (an account I was automatically upgraded to and didn't ask for) in order to consolidate all their legacy accounts in to a couple of products - a standard bank account and a high earners offering by the looks of it.
Some perks that are being removed include:
free chaps, card secure, extended warranty, will writing, cheque stops, market master, etc.
At a glance the only perk that I could see me missing is the reduction in atm withdrawals from 1000 a day to 300. Even then it would be a rare occurence to need that much cash.0 -
I believe/thought that the Platinum and Additions account were discontinued a few years ago.0

They were discontinued for new customers but existing accounts remained the same.
I've more or less decided to stick with the account for now and just keep the travel pack.0 -
Gah!
Bit bigger than this - the 'additions plus' that I'm on also includes home emergency cover, as well as the stock broking, extended warranty, concierge etc.
I'd need FOUR of their new packs, tech, travel, home and home protection, and STILL end up with less cover.
Additionally, they already dumped the cut-rate overdraft allowance that used to be incorporated.
Feeling rather !!!!ed off after being a loyal customer for most of my adult life - I don't mind change, but this is trebling the costs for reduced perks, and the only thing I can spot that's up is covering 4 phones instead of 1I don't have 4 phones
Nothing to sweeten the deal! What's better out there to switch to?0 -
Nation wides flex plus is probably the best value current account with a fee.
And you can get £100 for yourself and a friend with a referral on top, high would mean it's almost free for the first year.0
