O/S Daily Thursday 20 October 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, and now raining, although wind seems to have died down a bit. Still chilly.

DH up and gone to work early, DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was beef stew and dumplings, mash, peas, and then used up LO's of roasties, very small amount of mash, brussels and carrots - made a sort of bubble and squeak - all eaten and enjoyed. I remembered to get the pork shanks out to defrost but they are decent size and haven't completely defrosted - so they are now in a roasting tin, covered and in the fridge - they will become tomorrow nights' dinner, and I just need to organise something else for tonight.

Work yesterday wasn't too bad, although I was working on the telephones in the morning and they were quite busy, but I prefer to be busy. I had my meeting regarding the restructure and feel more settled, as the Manager was able to tell me that they have already had more people that want to go than they need, some volunteering for redundancy, some cutting hours, some at/or approaching retirement age, some who've just had enough - it's good that no-one's being made to go that doesn't want to, but it's going to be tight enough due to the restructure, we'll see.

I'm now on days' off, so have all the normal chores on the "to do" list - I'll be heading into town shortly, I'll visit the building society and bank, I also need to visit the Dr's to pick up my prescription. I have a full dirty wash basket as the weather hasn't been good enough to peg anything out I haven't done any washing since the weekend, so must get going with that, will just potter along today doing what I can. We're going to be out all day Saturday so I want to have as much done as possible.

Keep safe and well x

    Thanks for the thread Nmlc.
I've not posted for a while, too much going on and I've been in a really bad mood for a while now.
The toilet cistern started leaking and the ceiling and wall in the living room are badly marked, the surveyor is coming tomorrow which is really bad timing.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning all. In haste this morning so must be brief. We have Leeds today for Mr TA's appointment with the Oncology Consultant. That takes up most of the day, travelling to and fro and, of course, hanging around waiiting.

Last night's Italian meal for DGD's birthday was wonderful but we all ate too much as usual.

Big news is DS goes in today to sign up, pay up and get the key for his new batchelor pad!! He's booked tomorrow off work so we can make a start on taking all the boxes etc etc over!! It will involve quite a few trips back and forth.

Well DGDs all slept last night so must get them up now and face the mayhem. There will be much moaning of "I'm tired" as they were late to bed. They are back again tonight after their swimming/diving clubs. It will have to be something quick, maybe pizza and chips.

Bye for now (((HUGS))) where needed/wanted, especiially LAINEY and DM. Take care all xx Adding an extra hug for HESTER too, double posting xx

    Morning all,

Brrr its freezing here today ! going to set the heating tonight to come on for an hour in the morning im sitting here shivering which is no good !

Off to work today but edging nearer to the weekend its a busy day today and only two staff again so it will be stressful / busy !

Need to do a wash tonight and will have to tumble dry it, something and chips for dinner, I think there might be some fish fingers in the freezer and some peas.

I put a deposit down on a new car last night  its going to take 10 - 12 weeks to arrive, fingers crossed my car lasts that long, I desperately need a new car to get me back and forth to work and I need a reliable one for the winter. I am very excited and cant wait for it to come now :j

TA good luck for today xx

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning all, quick post fromantic me too, as I must get off to work. I have stuff to do before a day of meetings.

Just getting light here, not sure how cold it will be. I've Obe load of washing to go on the rack and need to put another in before leaving. Things are not drying very quickly so have resorted to the heating going on a couple of times a day.

Hope you alike have as good a day as possible

    Morning everyone.

There's a thick fog outside, so thick that I can't see the field in front of me.

Yesterday was a very long day. I didn't get home from Stobhill until almost GBBO time. My passenger was in the clinic for almost three hours. I poured a G&T and took it to bed with me to watch TV.

I woke at 6.15, closed my eyes and suddenly it was 7am!

TA - such great news about your DS, and only getting your space back.

Not going to move from bed yet.

Speky - how was your pudding? Any left?

I hope everyone has a good Thursday.

    Morning everyone,

Dry and bright here, accidentally left the washing out last night so will need to bring it in and put it through a rinse cycle.
Hope all goes well today TA and :j on your DS good news.
Hey Hester hope you feel a bit better.
Have a bit of time today to catch up on chores as spending this evening with DM, it's my nephews birthday so this will give my DB's family chance to go out together. DM was in good spirits yesterday and her youngest brother is visiting today, he's had to stay away for a couple of weeks due to bad cold so they have a lot to catch up on.
So off into town this morning, will visit library and pick up a few needed bits, am so looking forward to having an afternoon on the sofa catching up on my book.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x
  • Morning all,

Cloudy yet crisp morning. Not heard the forecast.

Yesterday evening was great. I had already made my sticky toffee pudding ready to put in the oven and my toffee sauce ready to heat up. When I arrived home at 6pm I had 45mins to get ready and make custard (from scratch, no custard powder) and then leave the house. I must say, it turned out very nice, thanks Gers. My GF's brother made the starter; Haggis Balls and her sister made the main; Lamb Bhuna. A very random 3 courses but was lovely. Think we're going to do it more often.

Not too sure what the plan is for tonight. I forgot my gym stuff, so I wont be going there after work so straight home to make dinner.

Hester - We're all thinking of you.
TA - Excellent news for your DS. You'll all be delighted.

    Morning All

Had a great nights sleep, from about 10 to 7.30 with just one bathroom break, feel so much better this morning. Yesterday I did pretty much nothing!

I did, however, rake the grass and get it cut, probably the last of the year, just need to get some grass seed.

Good news TA, hope your visit goes well today.
Your meal sounds great Speky, glad you enjoyed it.
Gers - That's a long appt and long drive back in the dark.
    Thinking of you HH.

I'm meeting a friend for lunch today and must return some library books as well as picking up one I had ordered. Washing all done and dried outside yesterday and the ironing has been done this morning.

Have a good day. Take care. XX
