hudl 2 battery problems

Hello!

Having problems with my son's hudl 2.
The battery lasts no time at all. He only got an hour on it from fully charged yesterday watching some youtube videos.
I have checked all the normal stuff - gps turned off, screen set to turn off after 1 minute of inactivity, screen brightness turned down.
When I look at the battery information screen there isn't anything out of the ordinary - operating system and screen taking up the most battery and then youtube.
We are charging the hudl using the official hudl 2 charger out of the box.
Randomly I have just put the hudl on charge (it was dead and wouldnt switch on) and when I did it came up with the normal screen showing that battery status it was showing 3/4 full. Also the hudl turned itself off earlier on today and I managed to get it to turn back on and it showed the battery to be 24% (but you could actually watch this reduce before your eyes)
Is there anything else I can do or should I go down the factory reset route? One hour use at a time is not enough!

Thanks

(edit: note that hudl gets translated to girl by my predictive text. just left as is cos it reads funny!!)

That really does sound a bit like a failing battery - 'charging' to full capacity quickly but that not being much capacity and therefore discharging very quickly too.
Lithium batteries are not immune to those problems especially if incorrectly charged, left discharged too long or subject to temperature extremes. So could be down to a girl or charger fault. I have noted my girl can get very hot if charged and used at the same time especially in a hot environment like in summer med temperatures. I wonder if that has an effect?

However batteries do seem to be fairly cheaply available see http://www.mpoweruk.com/lithium
for z better explanation and a goggle search of 'hudl2 battery replacement's comes up with several supposedly originals and instructions. Non too expensive but might be worth testing the charger voltage first as that may be a source of failure but if I could not do that I would just give a new battery a go.

Will look at another battery then if it is not too dear.
At least it will be cheaper than buying another tablet,

Fyi, tesco will repair it for a fixed price of £59. Regardless of the fault.
