National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme

On wiki there are four awareness courses offered potentially in lieu of a court appearance when considering driving offences. They are:

1]National driver alertness course (for non-serious collisions and complaints by 3rd parties)
2]National speed awareness course (for speeding up to 10% + 9 mph over the speed limit)
3]What's driving Us course (for conscious bad driving not resulting in a collision)
4]Driving 4 change course (for careless driving not resulting in a collision)

There may be more. The ACPO guidance states that you can only be considered for a course if you have not been on a "similar" course within 3 years.

My question is what are forum members opinion, on the word similar, would one for example be eligible for a speed awareness course and 2 years later an alertness course? I have spoken to an insurer who says they have seen this but thought would ask this board

Bear in mind there is only one insurer who are known - or even believed - to ask about course attendances, and they have no way to verify the information they're given.

Hmmm, new poster, detailed question, specific requests for experiences ...

I think we are helping someone with their research here. Is there an MSE element to this?

Similar = any motoring offence where a course if offered in lieu of points or a day in court?

"When a person has successfully attended and completed a course, their details are kept on a national database. This ensures that if a person is caught committing the same type of offence within three years from the date of the original offence they cannot be offered another course. i.e if you have a Speed Awareness Course, you cant have another Speed Awareness Course until 3 years have elapsed from the date of the original offence."

That is from the NDORS website. It seems that when ACPO said "similar" they meant "the same".
