Is there a list of companies to avoid for pet insurance, or better still a list of the best ones?

No!
You pay for a level of cover. Plenty want your money!0 -
A lot of people seem to offer pet insurance, discover it isn't working as they thought it would, then withdraw from the market.
I'm with petplan and at least part of the attraction is that is what they do. It isn't like a supermarket who have plenty other sources of income and can drop pet insurance at a whim.
Whether they are any good I don't know, as I've never had to claim. Premiums and excesses are creeping up and my dog is only four.
I think if I was starting again I would probably self-insure. I only have £5k in lifetime cover and I've already spent over £1500 in premiums. Then again its my first dog and a lot of people I meet while out dog-walking have tales of spending thousands of pounds on rebuilding joints and ligaments.0
