Refund due to poor performance from artist.

Alot of people are just laughing at me at the moment but, is there any way to get a refund from a show. Unfortunately, I went to see Justin Bieber last night, and it was awful. everything about him and his performance was terrible.
if I go to a restaurant or a shop and get terrible service or food, I would complain and deserve a refund.
Does this work for shows, and if not, why are artists allowed to get away with it. thanks.

sorry you had a bad time - I agree that it's extemeny disappointing when a performer doesn't meet expectation, especially given the price of concert tickets these days.

I think the problem in getting a refund would be partly that an artist's performance quality is quite subjective, but mainly that there are several levels of contract involved. If the concert didn't go ahead at all or the performer walked of after a few minutes you could be in luck. But if you saw a full show but the performer was under par I think you would struggle to get anything back.

I presume that you bought your ticket from the theatre box office or online ticket agency ? Your contract is therefore with them and this is who you'd need to complain to.

If they accepted your request for a (partial) refund then, as the performers level of performance is basically outside their control then they'd then have to take steps themselves to endure they are no out of pocket by similarly requesting compensation from the tour organisers / artist.

It's also better if you express your dissatisfaction to the theatre staff at the time - if it was that bad, I'd be leaving after a few songs and complaining at the box office straight away. If you stayed to the end then I think you are indicating that you are accepting of the performance

Using your same analogy, if you find food served in a restaurant unstasfactory after a few bites and don't eat it you might get a refund or replacement meal (although the restaurant owner might refuse arguing that it's just not to your personal choice), but if you eat the whole meal and only complain about it at the end I donlt think you can expect not to pay.

I have read the reviews about his show and some echo your view, but as poohsticks says it would be very hard to get a refund for the show just because you didn't like it. A few years ago my daughters were Justin Bieber fans and I sat through two London02 shows. I couldn't even hear what he singing due to the screaming of the fans, but my daughters thought it was the best show ever (they have been to a lot of West End shows and seen other artists). I on the other hand had ringing in my ears for a day after.
